Time magazine has promoted seasoned cover story writer Nancy Gibbs to deputy managing editor, the No. 2 spot at the newsweekly.
In an internal memo announcing the move, Managing Editor Rick Stengel praised Gibbs for being a prolific writer of cover stories on big news events like Columbine, Katrina, and 9/11, and for her behind-the-scenes skills as a manager. Time Inc. editor in chief John Huey joined Stengel in making the announcement.
