Motorola Droid Got a Gmail, Twitter, Amazon & Exchange ActiveSync System Update

My Motorola Droid received an Over The Air (OTA) system update last night. You can see the notification to the left. Could it be the near-mythical Gingerbread (Android OS 2.3) firmware update? I pressed the “More Info” button to learn more.

Alas, the 3.4MB Android Update had nothing to do with Gingerbread. The update information stated:

This software update includes new enhancements to Gmail, Exchange Active Sync updates, and many other improvements for your DROID by Motorola.

Verizon’s support document provides a bit more information.

– Updated Twitter® application with new authentication support.
– Updated Amazon widget.
– Updated News & Weather widget.
– Improvements to Microsoft® Exchange ActiveSync®:
— Handles server-side inactivity timeouts of 34 minutes
or greater.
— Continues to sync emails after a policy refresh.
— Support for Exchange 2010 connections.

– Added new Gmail® user interface
