Meredith Takes Stake in Social Network

Meredith Corp. is getting deeper into social networking, making a minority investment in Real Girls Media Network, a San Francisco-based network of online communities for women including
As part of the investment, Meredith and Real Girls Media will cross-sell each other’s online properties and Meredith will use Real Girls Media’s technology on its existing sites. The addition of the network will bring Meredith’s total unique monthly visitors to 15 million, per the company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The stake represents Meredith’s second big foray into social media following its recent launch of Mixing Bowl, an online community built around food.

Real Girls Media Network was founded in 2006 by Kate Thorp, past president of interactive at independent ad agency AKQA. The private company is backed by 3i and Walden Ventures.
