MapQuest, Talking Lila the Fairy, Google Play Magazines and more on this week’s top free mobile apps charts

YouTube retained the No. 1 spot and Apple developed apps like Podcasts and iTunes U remained in the top 10 as well on the top free iPhone apps chart this week. But a lot of new apps threw their hats into the ring. Gameloft's football simulator NFL Pro 2013 released on Sept. 27, debuting quite well at the No. 6 position. The 2012 Ryder Cup app which provided live coverage and video highlights of the event landed at the No. 21 spot. Another golf related app, EA's Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12, added ios 6 support, which pushed the app up the ranks to the No. 16 position. Navigational app MapQuest rose up to the No. 20 in lieu of Apple's poorly received iOS 6 Maps app. NFL Pro 2013, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12 for iPad and 2012 Ryder Cup all made the top 25 for the iPhone as well as the top free iPad apps chart. Voice-activated title Talking Lila the Fairy for iPad is free for a limited time (Normally $2.99), which catapulted the app to the No. 8 spot. Hasbro's Hungry Hungry Hippos app, akin to the board game, was slotted at the No. 9 rank. The top free Android apps chart this week remained very much the same since last week.
