@KlondikeBar Hosts Comedy Contest On Twitter

I’m writing in first person about this one because I’m superexcited. There’s a comedy contest on Twitter!

If you read my previous post about my FAME fiasco, you’ll know why I think this is AWESOME. And you’ll also know that I have a snowball’s chance of winning. But that doesn’t mean I won’t try. And you should too.

The contest, sponsored by Klondike, started on May 13 and it runs through July 23, with a winner being selected each week – 10 winners in all. According to the rules, new challenges (topics) will be tweeted from @KlondikeBar on May 14, 21, 28; June 4, 11, 18, 25, and; July 2, 9, 16.

FYI – They do not specify a time for posting these tweets, so please do not fret if you check their page at 4 a.m. and the new topic isn’t posted yet.

The jokes will be evaluated by a team of judges, led by Comedian Rob Delaney, made famous for his off-color Twitter musings. Who better for the job?

Are you ready? This week’s topic is “old people and technology.” When you tweet your jokes, leave room for the #KCS hashtag. And then check the Klondike Comedy site at the end of the week to see who the first finalist is.

At the end of the competition, the ten finalists will face off and one will be whisked away to New York in November to hang with some comedians at the Comedy Festival. We’re guessing that last part will involve public speaking of some variety – but don’t let THAT scare you off. If you throw up from nerves, you can just play it off as part of your act. Or something.

Now, off you go! Check the leaderboard if you want to see the jokes posted so far and vote on the funniest contributions. Here are a few favorites to inspire you:

Will you be participating? If so, good luck!
