Is AT&T iPhone Sales Growth Pressuring Verizon Android Sales or Vice Versa?

Nearly all of the various surveys, sales measures, and even web browser use indicates that Android has either overtaken or will soon overtake Apple in worldwide daily unit sales. Android’s availability by multiple U.S. carriers appears to give it an even greater ability to post strong regular market gains. So, what are we to make of this item from market intelligence firm Asymco?

Verizon Strikes Out in Smartphones [Updated]

Asymco’s Horace Dedlu draws three conclusions from data provided by ITG.

1. The iPhone has stolen their growth
2. They are facing the prospect of a single OS platform supplier
3. Android is not competitive vs. iOS

This is fascinating since the three points are near mirror images of other analysis we’ve been seeing over the past 6 months or so as Android phone sales have skyrocketed. The main premise that Verizon faces pressure from iPhone sales by AT&T seems reasonable to me. Dedlu’s various and interesting charts all make sense at face value. However, there should be a closer look at the underlying data from ITG on which these charts are based.
