iOS 4.3.3 Addresses Apple’s Location-Gate. iPhone 3G, CDMA iPhone 4 Left Out

Apple released iOS 4.3.3 updates to deal with its location-gate controversy. Updated devices no longer backs up the location data cache file to iTunes on the desktop. Updated devices will also delete the cache completely when Location Services is turned off.

However, although TechCrunch reported that all iOS users have now been taken care of regarding location-gate, this may not be true.

iPhone Location Update: All Users In 1 Week; Android 2.3 Update: 4% Of Users In 5 Months

There are three iOS devices that are not supported by this update.

1. The original iPhone
2. iPhone 3G
3. CDMA (Verizon) iPhone 4

TechCrunch’s commentary on the sad state of Android OS fragmentation (only 4% of smartphones running 2.3) and the ongoing problems related to updating Windows Phone 7, however, are all too correct.
