In Memoriam: Ofield Dukes, and More in the Roll Call

As we mentioned in The Ticker, Ofield Dukes died on Wednesday at the age of 79. Dukes worked with the LBJ administration and went on to open his own PR firm Ofield Dukes & Associates in 1969. His clients included Motown Records, CBS Records, and AT&T. He also consulted every Democratic presidential candidate since 1969, served as an adjunct professor at Howard and American Universities, was a journalist in his hometown of Detroit, and organized the first dinner of the Congressional Black Caucus in 1972. Dukes’ sister says he succumbed to a form of bone cancer. [via Washington Post]

Travel marketing firms MMG Worldwide and Ypartnership are merging to become MMGY Global. The unified company will have offices in Denver, Kansas City, New York, and Orlando with affiliates in 10 countries. MMGY Global will have 200 employees and represent more than 200 travel and hospitality clients, according to the press release. Clayton Reid will serve as president and CEO, Don Montague is the company’s chairman, and Peter Yesawich is vice chairman.

Tim Roemer, former U.S. ambassador to India during the Obama administration and six-term Indiana congressman, has joined APCO Worldwide as SVP. He’ll be based in the Washington D.C. office.

Ellen Soule is stepping down as PR director for Neiman Marcus, effective December 16. She’s been with the company for eight years and says she plans to take time off before deciding on the next step. The retailer is looking for a replacement. [via St. Louis Today]

James Hope has joined Kia Motors America as national manager of product PR. He’ll be overseeing model launches, auto shows, and media relations. He has previously worked for Kia, but was most recently with Volvo Cars of North America. He’ll report to Scott McKee, PR director. [via]

ChristieCommunications has added three staffers in its executive division: BreAnne Yothers joins as comms manager; Rajan De Los Santos joins as account director for health and wellness; and John Morton joins in business development.
