ImageShack Tried to Patent TwitPic Name

ImageShack decided to file Aug. 24 with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to patent the name TwitPic, according to TechCrunch. So why the old news and where’s the story? ImageShack has nothing to do with TwitPic. Rather, the company owns TwitPic competitor yfrog.

TwitPic actually filed to patent its own name, but it did not do so until Oct. 6.

According to TechCrunch, the filing by ImageShack is in non-final-action mode, meaning attorneys from the USPTO are investigating because the filed documents don’t actually contain the word TwitPic, while the filing by TwitPic is in suspension mode.
