Google Play Books Updated With Discover Feature on Android

The Discover feature allows users to find new books by browsing reviews, news, lists, videos and more.

Google announced the release of a Discover feature in Google Play Books on Android. The feature allows users to find new books by browsing reviews, news, lists, videos and more.

The Discover section in Google Play Books features news stories, reviews, lists and videos about books from “trusted sources” around the web, such as NPR. The application will present stories to users based on the books they read on Google Play Books.

In addition, as users read these articles or watch videos, the app will pull out the books that are mentioned, so users can read free samples or buy the books within the app.

Elsewhere, users can read “the most important news, reviews and videos” from each week in a Weekly Highlights roundup.

Finally, with the launch of the Discover feature, Google has also introduced Google Play Editorial, which contains original articles, including interviews with authors, essays written by writers and book selections from “some of the literary world’s leading voices.”

The Discover feature is now available in the U.S. in the Google Play Books app on Android. The feature is coming soon to iOS.
