Here’s a simple philanthropic way to test your ability to abstain from cell phone use this coming March: The UNICEF Tap Project.
The UNICEF Tap Project invites you to go without your phone to help children in need of clean water. Are you up for the challenge?
For every minute you don’t touch your phone, our sponsor will fund one day of clean water for a child in need. It’s that simple.
Here’s how to participate:
1. Visit uniceftapproject.org on your phone.
2. Begin the challenge right away to see how long you can go without your smartphone.
3. Donate to provide even more clean water to kids. Just $1 can provide 40 days of clean water.
This year, the money will come from the UNICEF Tap Project’s official sponsor, Giorgio Armani Frangrances, who promises to donate up to $75,000 USD from March 1-31, 2014. That’s $0.025 for every minute a user stays off a cell phone. In addition, the company will also donate $5 from each purchase of Acqua di Giò and Acqua di Gioia fragrance with a minimum of $500,000 from all Aqua for Life promotions during March.
UNICEF can provide one child with safe drinking water for 200 days with just $5.
