fbFund Startup Thread.com Gets $1.2 Million In Funding

Today at the fbFund REV demo day, Thread.com (formerly “Frinto”) announced that they have received funding from a number of well known valley investors. Thread.com leverages Facebook Connect to create a site for social dating via friendly introductions. While Facebook has a number of large dating applications, none of them work quite as smoothly as this one.

Interestingly enough there are a number of dating applications that are attempting to do the same thing but none have relied solely on Facebook Connect. Honestly, I think it’s a great idea and given that users can instantly bring along their contacts when they register, all registration hurdles that typically plague dating websites have been eliminated. I’m honestly surprised that we haven’t seen more sites rely completely on Facebook Connect in order to get more traction.

The new round of funding came from a stellar group of investors:

  • Founders Fund (Dave McClure)
  • Ron Conway (Founding General Partner at SV Angel)
  • David Sacks (CEO at Yammer and Geni)
  • Auren Hoffman (CEO at Rapleaf)
  • Reid Hoffman (Chairman at LinkedIn)
  • Joe Greenstein and Saran Chari (CEO and CTO at Flixster)
  • Shervin Pishevar (CEO at Social Gaming Network)

With a killer group of an investors, a nice design, and a great idea, there’s a good chance that the company has a bright future ahead of it. The only problem left is that the site may run into some problems once Facebook’s new privacy policies go into effect. Given the company’s well connected investors though, I’m sure things will work out!
