Ello, Tinder, BuzzFeed Among Nominees for 19th Annual Webby Awards

The awards ceremony will take place on Monday, May 18, and the ceremony will be available on demand on May 19 on the official Webby Awards site.

The nominees for the 19th annual Webby Awards were announced yesterday, along with voting for the People’s Choice awards. This year’s nominees include Vice, Tinder, Vine, Refinery29 and Tumblr. Voting will remain open until just before midnight on Thursday, April 23rd.

David-Michel Davies, executive director of the Webby Awards said in a statement:

This year’s Nominees are moving Internet culture – and society – forward through their sophisticated technology, sleek user design, and social influence. Each of this year’s Nominees are raising the bar in their respective categories and we are excited for the public to weigh in with their votes for this year’s Webby People’s Voice Winners.

Sites like The New York Times, TIME, CNN, The Guardian, National Geographic and Tumblr have been nominated for creating compelling visual and interactive experience while remaining true to the written word. Al Jazeera America, BuzzFeed, the Los Angeles Times, Mashable and NYTNow were nominated for delivering high quality mobile experiences.

Many advertising firms received nominations for innovative campaigns, including Google’s Year in Search, #LikeAGirl from Always, and the Amnesty International Tinder Takeover.

Several social sites also received nominations in a number of categories, including Ello and Imgur in the social media category, Twitch in the games-related category, Vine in best streaming video, and Tinder in the social mobile app category.

Other notable nominations include Weird Al Yankovic in the best individual performance category for Foil, released during his huge social media album push, and Michelle Phan in how-to and DIY for her wildly popular makeup tutorials.
