Dell Venue Smartphone: Old Android OS 2.2, No Front-facing Camera, No Pull Down Keyboard

The Android powered Streak 7 tablet wasn’t Dell’s only Android announcement at CES. They also announced their new phone: The Venu smartphone.

Dell News from CES: Streak 7 Tablet, Venue Smartphone, Enhanced Dell Stage and More

Like the Dell Streak 7, the Venue smartphone is also based on the older Android OS 2.2 release (Froyo) instead of the current 2.3 (Gingerbread). The Venue smartphone is a bit of an odd duck in today’s Android phone world. It has a 4.1-inch AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass. But, it only has a single rear-facing 8 megapixel camera. It does not appear to have a front-facing camera for video calls like several other recent Android phones. And, it does not have a pull down physical QWERTY keyboard like the Windows Phone 7 powerd Dell Venue Pro. I don’t see a lot of reasons to get excited about the Venue smartphone.
