CBS Taps Boxee to Sell Shows Online

CBS and upstart Web video aggregator Boxee have inked a deal to distribute individual CBS episodes to consumers, according to

The deal is significant for Boxee, which has in the past clashed with Hulu over allowing users to stream full-length network shows for free via its software. Boxee’s software, which enables users to view Web video from multiple sources in a single interface, is available for download. As of last November, consumers can also purchase a Boxee device to connect to their TVs.

In a statement, Boxee indicated it is pursuing similar deals with other TV networks. “It’s a major step for us, working with the biggest network in the U.S.,” the company said. “We hope it’s the beginning of more deals with major content providers, both here in the U.S. and abroad.”
