BlackBerry’s PlayBook Tablet Coming 2011

Research In Motion, the maker of BlackBerry, announced their highly anticipated tablet computer today.

The new PlayBook (which was rumored to be called the BlackPad) runs on OS and, will directly compete with Apple’s iPad. The tablet includes a 7″ LCD touchscreen with 1024 x 600 resolution, 1 GHz dual-core processor and 1 GB RAM. It has two HD cameras inside and captures video at 1080p, the standard for high def. It also supports audio and video playback, so get your enhanced eBooks ready.

Amazon and Kobo already have eReader apps ready to go on it. It won’t quite be here for Christmas. According to a press release, the “PlayBook is expected to be available in retail outlets and other channels in the United States in early 2011 with rollouts in other international markets beginning in (calendar) Q2.”

The company has yet to say how much it will cost.
