Barnes & Noble Pushing Nook Color To Kids In Test Stores

Looking to reach families, Barnes & Noble is expanding the Toys & Games departments in its stores nationwide and is testing new children’s play spaces in five test stores. The playrooms will be a great gateway drug to get kids hooked on the upcoming Nook Color, as the playrooms will be stocked with the devices.

Barnes & Noble is marketing the new device to parents as a great way to reach children’s books. They recently debuted Nook Kids, a digital book collection of kids books, as well as a kids loyalty club. Also in June, the retailer launched an online story time for kids.

The new play spaces will include interactive displays and learning areas focused around B&N products. The products include toys from LEGO, LeapFrog, Playmobil, Calico Critters, Puppet Theater, Crayola, American Girl crafts, as well as toys based on books such as Thomas the Tank Engine, Olivia, and Curious George.

The test stores include locations in Enfield, CT; Manchester, CT; North Brunswick, NJ; Holmdel, NJ and one in the Bronx. The company plans to roll out more boutiques after a period of testing.
