Author Jeremy Robinson Says Giving Away Content Drives Sales

For author Jeremy Robinson, giving away content is the best way to drive sales. In a panel today at Thrillerfest, the author, who came to fame through self-publishing on Lulu.com, said that giving away free audio books helps sell eBooks.

For his recent book Beneath, Robinson hired actors to create an audio book. The 17 chapters from the book were released as free weekly episodes, a chapter a week. People who subscribed to an RSS feed through iTunes would automatically get the weekly podcasts. Fans could also purchase the entire audiobook, as well as the eBook.

Since the book’s release in February, Robinson said that he has sold about 5,000 eBooks.
