Game developer and publisher Ubisoft has announced Assassin’s Creed Pirates, a new standalone mobile title in the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise. The game will come to smartphones and tablets, and will take players to the Golden Age of piracy in the Caribbean.

Assassin’s Creed Pirates places players in the role of Alonzo Batilla in the early 1700s. As a young captain, players must manage their crew, balance upgrades for their ship and recruit new crew members in a bid to become a feared pirate, claiming as much treasure as possible along the way. Players will search for La Buse’s treasure, interacting with Templars and other famous pirates as they uncover the game’s mysteries.

Ubisoft Paris is developing a brand new mobile game engine for the game, which Ubisoft said (in a company statement) will “bring groundbreaking 3D visuals to smartphones and tablets.” The game will feature a day and night cycle, along with weather conditions that may impact the game’s waters and therefore also impact the gameplay of the title’s many naval battles.

Assassin’s Creed Pirates will launch on smartphones and tablets this fall. Watch the Assassin’s Creed Pirates announcement trailer below.
