AOL's Patch: Full-Speed Ahead on Expansion

AOL’s Patch hyperlocal news initiative is aiming high, following up the announcement that it launched neighborhood blog No. 100 with plans to add 400 more over the next six months and to hire 500 reporters in 20 states.

AOL had already announced plans to invest $50 million in Patch, and Patch president Warren Webster went into further details with paidContent.

Webster told paidContent Patch uses a 59-variable algorithm to determine where to launch, saying it takes into account factors such as average household income, voting frequency, and ranking of the local public high school.
