Angry Bird Seasons For Android

Just Monday I wrote that Rovio was going to be releasing the Christmas edition of Angry Birds, and today they released Angry Birds Seasons for Android. Seasons combines the previously released Halloween edition and the new Christmas edition into one app, with the two editions being different sections. I assume that Rovio will release updates of the Seasons app at different holidays throughout the year.

As you can see in the screen shot, the Seasons Greetings section has 25 levels. Each level corresponds to the 25 days of December leading up to Christmas. As a twist, you can only complete one level per day, so if you play the game today, on December 1, you will not be able to play level 2 until tomorrow. When you tap other levels it shows you how many days, hours, and minutes you have before you can play the level. Tap the 25th level to see how many days, hours, and minutes are left until Christmas.

The Seasons Greetings section has new layouts with a winter theme. In the first level the pigs are hiding in an ice fortress with presents on the outside, and you get three red birds and one red bird to squash the pigs. Snow falls and holiday music plays in the background as you sling the birds at the fortress.

While the Seasons Greetings section has limitations on when you can play levels, the Halloween section does not. iPhone and iPad users have the Halloween section available as a separate app, Angry Birds Halloween. I expect that Rovio will release a Seasons version for the iPhone and iPad that will replace the Angry Birds Halloween app. It would be really cool if the new Seasons version simply installed as an update to the Halloween app, but I don’t know if that is possible. UPDATE: I’ve just checked the Apps store on my iPad and I see that Angry Birds Seasons is now available for the iPad and iPhone. Angry Birds Halloween is replaced by Seasons in the iPad store and on my iPad it showed as installed, but does not appear in Updates. I deleted Halloween from my iPad and now while it thinks Seasons is installed, when I tap to install it, I am asked to pay $1.99.

While you have to pay for the Hallween app on the iPhone and iPad, Angry Bird Seasons is free on Android, but does display ads at the top of the screen for a brief period of time each time you play a level. Seasons also includes a link to shop.angrybirds.com, where you can order Angry Birds plush toys. Each plush toy costs $14.99, but Rovio is charging a minimum of $10 for shipping, making the total cost nearly $25. The bird plush toys will ship in December, hopefully in time for Christmas, while the pigs will ship in January.
