Twitter Launches #AmazonCart, Allows Users To Shop Amazon From Twitter

Twitter and Amazon have partnered to bring users #AmazonCart – a hashtag that puts products you see on Twitter into your Amazon cart.

Starting today, whenever a user sees a tweet containing an Amazon product, they can simply respond to the tweet with the hashtag #AmazonCart and the product will be added to their Amazon cart. Amazon will respond on Twitter and via email to confirm that the item has been added.

In order to use this feature, users will need to connect their Twitter account to their Amazon account. The #AmazonCart feature is currently only available to users in the US.

While the terms of this arrangement were not fully disclosed, ReCode reports that spokespeople from both companies confirmed that Twitter would not receive any revenue from the sales generated via the hashtag.

This type of in-stream purchasing may appeal to impulse buyers and those who follow a significant number of brand accounts. As brands and influencers tweet their products, shoppers will be able to instantly save them to their Amazon cart – as the video explains below, this means no more switching apps, remembering passwords or making note of interesting products seen on Twitter to purchase later.

It’s also a significant partnership for Twitter, as the social network pushes into ecommerce to appease investors.
