Alltel Sued over Unauthorized Fees

Some Alltel customers are up in arms about their cell phone bills. A class-action suit was filed against the carrier for allegedly adding fees for content downloads to its subscribers’ bills, without verifying that they actually made the purchases.

According to a report on RCR Wireless News, the plaintiff’s complaint states:

Alltel’s decision to continue to charge its customers for mobile content without taking steps to authenticate the representations of the mobile content providers that the customer’s authority to be charged was obtained constitutes a deliberate and willful scheme to cheat large numbers of people out of small amounts of money.
