Alleged Bigot Sues Red Lobster, Waitress for Accusing Him of Bigotry

red lobsterLast September, Toni Christina Jenkins was waiting tables at her local Red Lobster in Tennessee when some jackleg fool left an unfortunate, highly racist note in the tip section instead of money (pictured in its original NSFW fashion after the jump).

To wit, Jenkins posted it on Facebook and the thing went viral faster that the flu. And for her efforts to “show that racism was still alive and well,” she was suspended from her job for “violating the company’s policy prohibiting the posting of receipts online.”

Stay classy, Red Lobster.

Anywho, things went very well for Jenkins but the guy who allegedly went all backwoods trailer park on her receipt is suing Red Lobster — and Ms. Jenkins — for $1 million. His claim: She did it.

So, as the story goes, the Internet opened a fresh can of whoop @$$ on Red Lobster for their treatment of Jenkins, in lieu of the picture she posted (check it). Jenkins was eventually invited to return to work and then, Jenkins received a $10,000 tip to make up for the one she didn’t get on September from the Klan hopeful.

Tips for Toni,” an online fundraiser organized by founder Matthew Hanson managed to collect some $10,749 to show Jenkins that not everyone sucks.

Cool, right?

Not if you ask Franklin, Tennessee’s own Devin Barnes. He is the alleged bigot who wrote that disgraceful sentiment. According to an interview with WCBD-2 (NBC), a complaint in a Williamson County court has been filed, citing “a willful and malicious act, slander and unlawful release of Barnes’ personal information on the Internet.”

In the suit, Barnes admits he is one cheap son-of-a-gun who doesn’t deserve to go out to eat unless it’s in a local dumpster, but denies ever writing the other part of that receipt.

Learning of the lawsuit, Red Lobster released this statement:

“As we shared before, it is against our policy to post guest information online. Our standard procedure is to suspend the employee involved with pay while we determine what happened. After the completion of a full investigation into this matter, Miss Jenkins returned to work. As we also shared, we were disgusted by the language used on this guest check as it has no place in our restaurant or anywhere else.”

In short, stick with fast food in Franklin, Tenn. It seems everyone will be safer that way.
