Three of today’s biggest brands—Nike, Netflix and Apple—are all in the running for the 2019 Outstanding Commercial Emmy, as is the gun violence prevention nonprofit Sandy Hook Promise.
Two Apple ads from longtime agency TBWA\Media Arts Lab were among the five Emmy nominations announced today: “Make Something Wonderful” from the Behind the Mac campaign and “Don’t Mess With Mother,” a Shot in iPhone spot that launched on Earth Day this past April.
Also nominated was 2018’s most polarizing and globally discussed ad, Nike’s “Dream Crazy” starring Colin Kaepernick from agency Wieden + Kennedy Portland.
Sandy Hook Promise’s “Point of View,” which continued agency BBDO New York’s years-long series of attention-grabbing, long-form PSAs, was also nominated.
Netflix’s “A Great Day in Hollywood,” from creative agency Kamp Grizzly, rounded out the five nominations with its celebration of the film industry’s blossoming appreciation for diversity.
Last year’s Emmy winner for Outstanding Commercial was P&G’s “The Talk,” which advanced conversations around racial inequality in America. Here’s a look back at the five spots nominated last year, which include “It’s a Tide Ad” and Amazon’s “Alexa Loses Her Voice,” both from the 2018 Super Bowl.
