Niantic Labs is acquiring augmented reality firm 8th Wall in the Pokémon Go creator’s quest to build out its platform for developers to produce their own AR games.
Niantic said that 8th Wall’s tool kit of WebAR services will help supplement the company’s Lightship platform, which launched last November with the goal of giving brands and other developers access to its game-building studio. A Niantic spokesperson declined to reveal the terms of the deal but said it was the company’s biggest acquisition to date.
