You Can Rent This Tiny Home That’s Literally Powered by Coffee for Only $10 a Night

Here’s a fun fact that avid coffee drinkers may not know: there is actually a lot of power in those residual coffee grounds that get tossed away after your morning pot of java. The natural oil in spent coffee beans, when expertly extracted, can be used as a chief component in a rather potent biofuel.

Just how potent can that biofuel be, you ask? Well, it’s apparently strong enough to power a chic, modernly designed tiny home, complete with a jacuzzi. Just ask Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee at Home, who recently launched the very literal Home That Runs on Dunkin’ in conjunction with their agency, Hill Holliday.

The fuel used for the tiny home was developed by Blue Marble Biomaterials and is comprised of 80 percent Dunkin’ coffee oil and 20 percent alcohol. Not only does it burn efficiently, but it supplies enough energy to power a fully functional kitchen, a bathroom, an AC unit, and more. The tiny outpost, which is located on the water in Nahant, Mass., north of Boston, is available for as little as $10 per night for a limited time through Airbnb.

The home’s sleek design makes excellent use of space with a king-size bed lofted above so that guests can comfortably navigate the lower level, which includes plushy furniture and a pull-out dining space. For its warm decor, the company partnered with actress Olivia Wilde, who incorporated her personal, sunny style.

“I’m thrilled to be joining forces with Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee at Home, giving me the opportunity to be part of the opening of the Home that Runs on Dunkin’,” said Wilde.

Though the overall execution of the Home That Runs on Dunkin’ is mighty impressive, there is one pitfall: due to its design, the home is not wheelchair accessible. It calls to attention a broader need to include the voices and experiences of disabled people into discussions surrounding conservation and green initiatives.

Still, Dunkin’s cozy home excellently showcases the coffee’s ability to wow beyond its delicious brew. Coffee lovers in New York City were able to tour the Home That Runs on Dunkin’ earlier this month, and those keen on seeing the tiny home can enjoy a 360-degree tour.

And yes, in case you were wondering, the home does including a functioning coffee pot and unlimited Dunkin’ coffee.
