Walgreens is reviewing its media planning and buying business, sources said.

The retailer spent more than $203 million in media two years ago and nearly $190 million in the first nine months of last year, according to Nielsen. Those figures don't include online spending.

R3:JLB in Chicago is managing the search process and the incumbent, Publicis Groupe's Starcom, has been invited to defend, sources said. 

The media search comes a year after Walgreens reviewed its creative account.
