SXSW Doubles Down Against Calls to #BoycottTexas: 'We Are Committed to Staying and Fighting'

In the wake of new laws restricting abortion and voting rights, some activists have called for the festival to leave its home state

As voting and abortion rights are eroded in its home state of Texas, South by Southwest is staying put.

The annual conglomeration of festivals today addressed calls for it to leave the Lone Star State in the wake of restrictive new voting and abortion laws passed in recent weeks by the conservative state legislature. SXSW also announced donations to three nonprofit organizations addressing reproductive health and voting access in the state. Organizers are exploring ways to give activists a platform at the 2022 event.
