LOS ANGELES Industry veteran Bruce Silverman has unexpectedly resigned as president of independent WongDoody here, he confirmed.

Silverman made the announcement to “slightly shocked” colleagues at the agency on Monday. “It just clicked,” he said. “Most people who are successful in advertising can’t wait to go to work every day. I was certainly one of those. But when you have to drag yourself to work, that’s the signal.”

Silverman said he would continue consulting with WongDoody, “which has more to do with the transitional work,” and another consulting job would involve “a financial services company linked to the media business.”
