Nokia Sends RFPs to at Least 13 Shops

DALLAS At least 13 agencies have received requests for proposals for creative chores on Nokia’s $35 million ad account, sources said.

Shops in receipt include independents Doner in Southfield, Mich.; Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore.; and Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami; Omnicom agencies DDB in Chicago and Dallas; BBDO in Atlanta; GSD&M in Austin, Texas; Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco; and TBWA\Chiat\Day in Playa del Rey, Calif.; Publicis Groupe’s Fallon in Minneapolis and Leo Burnett in Chicago; and Interpublic Group agencies Temerlin McClain in Irving, Texas; an office of New York-based Deutsch, and Campbell Mithun in Minneapolis. An undisclosed number of other agencies also received an RFP, sources said.

The client could not be reached for comment. The agencies either could not be reached or referred calls to the client.

Incumbent The Richards Group, which also handles the client’s media chores, was invited to participate but has declined. The independent Dallas agency said it has a policy not to defend accounts that have gone into review. Richards has had the business since 1997.

RFPs are due back Dec. 1. The client said the process will be completed in January. A consultant is not involved; rather, the review is being handled by Nokia’s procurement department.

The cellular telephone manufacturer, with regional headquarters are in Irving, spent about $35 million on domestic ads last year, per TNS Media Intelligence/CMR.
