Nestlé veteran Alex Gonnella has been appointed as group marketing director for Nestlé U.K. and Ireland, to lead the businesses’ 2000-strong brand portfolio including Cheerios, Häagen-Dazs, Nespresso and Nescafé.

Gonnella has spent 17 years at Nestlé, with a background at pet care business Purina.

For the past five years, he has led marketing for Nestlé confectionery arm in the U.K. and Ireland. In that role, he was responsible for driving initiatives like Smarties’ move to paper-based packaging which removed around 250 million plastic packs from circulation each year.
