MHI Unifies Creative Divisions

Multimedia Holdings Inc. has merged two of its creative units, Supon Design Group andGibson Design.

Like MHI, the new entity, Supon Gibson Design, is located in Washington, D.C.

“Bringing these two together creates a super agency,” said MHI president Julian Clopet.

Supon Phornirunlit, formerly creative director at Supon Design, will be executive creative director at the new 30-person shop.

“MHI is blending two of Washington’s strongest branded design firms into one powerhouse of creativity,” said Phornirunlit. “We’ll be better able to serve our clients’ needs.”

Phornirunlit, a native of Thailand, sold his design firm to MHI—which operates essentially as aholding company for advertising and production firms—in 1999.

“MHI’s integration of marketing and creative firms under one roof was attractive to me,” he said. “A lot of design firms do great work, but they don’t understand marketing or how to pitch clients. Poolingtalent gets the attention of big clients who’d otherwise think you’re too small.”

SDG achieved international attention for its IBM work at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. The client used the design at subsequent games in Japan and Australia.
