McCann Erickson Working Again On Verizon Wireless Spots

Carrier left agency in 2010

McCann Erickson has quietly been picking up creative assignments for Verizon Wireless, an account that left the Interpublic agency in 2010 for Dentsu’s mcgarrybowen.

The latest work from McCann, “Map Gallery,” which broke earlier this month, follows commercials like “Rorschach” in October and “Reality Check” in August.

When McCann was Verizon Wireless’s creative lead agency, it developed the map concept with ads like “There’s a map for that” which parodied Apple’s “There’s an app for that” campaign. The pitch used maps to compare the density of Verizon’s 3G network with the smaller amount of coverage from AT&T, which was then the exclusive partner for Apple’s iPhone.

The latest work plays off that visual comparison again, this time pitting Verizon Wireless's 4G capabilities against that of AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile.

A McCann rep declined comment, referring calls to the client. Reps at Verizon Wireless and lead shop mcgarrybowen didn’t return calls.
