NEW YORK Women-focused Web publisher iVillage said it bought HealthCentersOnline, a publisher of niche Web sites devoted to medical topics, expanding the amount of health-related inventory it can offer advertisers.

New York-based iVillage said it paid $12 million for the company, with about $11 million in cash and $1 million in stock. The deal brings to iVillage a group of Web sites focused on specific medical conditions, including HeartCenterOnline, AllergyHealthOnline and HealthyLivingOnline.

“Healthcare information is one of the top concerns for women,” said Doug McCormick, iVillage’s CEO, in a statement, “and iVillage is committed to expanding and deepening this vertical.”
