WASHINGTON, D.C. Independence Air, a new airline offering service starting June 16, has launched a $30 million campaign featuring political consultants James Carville and Mary Matalin, comedian Dennis Miller, musician Chuck Berry and soccer star Mia Hamm.

The campaign includes TV, radio, print and outdoor work done by Baltimore-based shop GKV Communications. The campaign launched today in New York and will be followed by other markets. Some of the work debuted last month in Washington and Northern Virginia.

Independence Air will be based at Dulles airport in Virginia. In one spot, Mary Matalin says, “They believe we should spend less. They believe in having fewer rules and regulations. And they believe Washington should connect with everyone, not just people in big cities. In other words, this is the perfect airline. No one could argue with this, not even in my house.”

The spots will air locally in 35 markets that the airline plans on serving. These include Boston, Chicago, Nashville, Tenn., and Syracuse, N.Y.
