Brand Resource Strategy Group Purchases ORBB

Brand Resource Strategy Group Austin has acquired ORBB Advertising and Design.

The two Austin, Texas, shops complement each other, said BRSG co-president Kerry Hilton. “We both have the same desire to do great creative, but their focus was on design and ours was on advertising and media buying,” he said.

The firms “did a trial run” prior to the acquisition, Hilton said, by co-pitching two undisclosed potential clients. “We felt a great sense of energy and decided to make it a formal thing,” he said. “We felt it was best for BRSG to acquire ORBB and keep the branding simple.”

Financial terms of the deal are undisclosed. No personnel layoffs have resulted, Hilton said, and the total employee count numbers 18.

The three ORBB principals join the leadership of the new shop. Patti Olson Rogers shares presidential duties with Hilton. Mark Brink-man becomes creative director and Nancy Beesley vice president of client services.

The agency’s addi-tional resources allow it to pursue new categories, Hilton said, such as financial and retail, and to continue BRSG’s recent focus on healthcare. The shop can also offer clients more strategic skills and a deeper account service staff, he said.

The new entity has a diverse mix of clients. ORBB brings Dell, Forgent Networks and the University of Texas System to BRSG, which has AIG Valic, Casa Olé Mexican Restaurants and ConocoPhillips, among others, on its roster.

Combined billings are more than $10 million, according to Hilton.

The acquisition continues a series of changes at ORBB this year. In May, the shop formerly known as The Olson Group adopted its new name, to reflect its partners’ initials: Olson Rogers, Brinkman and Beesley. Brinkman had joined the 7-year-old firm that month from Austin’s Sibley/Peteet Design.

Hilton formed BRSG Austin last year following the closure of True North Communications’ Bozell Kamstra office, where he was creative director. He partnered with BRSG Houston while retaining a majority stake in the Austin firm.
