A-Rod and Mr. Peanut Do Some Serious Bonding in Planters’ Super Bowl Teaser

The 30-second spot will air during the second quarter

Mr. Peanut will have a celebrity friend starring alongside him in his very first Super Bowl ad.

Mr. Peanut will have an A-list friend starring alongside him in his big Super Bowl debut—and according to the brand, things are going to “get nutty.” Through a 15-second teaser, Planters revealed this morning that Alex Rodriguez will make an appearance in the brand’s Big Game spot, airing during Super Bowl LIII on Feb. 3.

In the teaser, A-Rod and Mr. Peanut are lounging around on the couch, bonding. Mr. Peanut tosses several peanuts in A-Rod’s direction for him to catch in his mouth.

The full 30-second spot, created by VaynerMedia, will air during the second quarter of the game. Parent company Kraft-Heinz has put a number of its other brands in the game in the past, but this marks the first Super Bowl spot for Mr. Peanut. The Planters brand was last seen in the game 11 years ago.

“Planters is one of the biggest snack brands in America, and this is one of the biggest snacking days of the year,” Luke Cole, director of marketing, snacks ands desserts at Kraft Heinz, said in a statement. “It’s only natural Mr. Peanut is there to show how he always has your back in snacking and in life, and he’s going all-out to show fans he’s got their backs, whether they’re baseball legends or passionate football fans.”
