$270 Mil. Kia Account Remains at Davidandgoliath

LOS ANGELES Kia Motors America said it retained independent davidandgoliath for creative duties on its ad account following a review.

The automaker in Irvine, Calif., spends approximately $270 million annually on ads, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

The other finalists were MDC Partners’ Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners in New York, independent Cramer-Krasselt in Chicago and Omnicom Group’s GSD&M in Austin, Texas. Davidandgoliath is located in Los Angeles.

“Each of the finalists displayed impressive credentials and put forth a great effort during the agency review,” said Peter Butterfield, president and chief executive officer of Kia Motors America, in a statement. “Davidandgoliath and Kia have partnered together during this company’s recent growth and we look forward to moving forward together.”

Sales were up 50 percent in November, when Kia moved 23,000 units; for the year, sales increased 14 percent to 250,000 units to date, all per Ward’s Automotive.

Kia’s best-selling vehicle has been the Sedona minivan (57,000 so far this year), followed by the mid-sized Optima sedan and the Sorrento compact SUV (each selling around 48,000 units), according to automotive consultancy Car Concepts in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
