There are a few recurring themes in this year’s global holiday advertising, namely togetherness and connection—most often the human kind, but crash-landed space aliens are included too.

Albert Heijn, the largest supermarket chain in the Netherlands, has gone a slightly different route with its annual commercial, taking the spotlight off the biggest mammals and putting it on the smallest.

In this delightful mini-movie, two animated rodents fall head-over-heels for each other. Scoff if you will, but this hamster love story is a perfect seasonal snack—just the right amount of sweetness and sentimentality with no saccharine aftertaste.

The campaign comes from the longtime agency of record TBWA\Neboko in Amsterdam, which has for several years featured members of one fictional family—Ilse, Bart, Tommy, Grandma, et al—in the grocery chain’s Christmas spots.
