For Production Company Summerjax, It’s All About Trust and Collaboration

Shop promises to serve as an extension of brands' in-house teams

Manhattan Beach, Calif., neighbors Lauren Tanzer and Wimberly Meyer were having conversations about new motherhood and marketing in 2013 when they began cooking up a plan to disrupt the industry.

Five years later, they’re business partners at Summerjax, a full-service production company in Los Angeles that promises to serve as an extension of brands’ in-house teams. The company, named after Tanzer’s son Jax, has worked with brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, Jose Cuervo and Quiksilver to produce creative video and photography campaigns. Some of its current work includes a peppy Hollister ad featuring the musician Khalid, a documentary-style spot for Fender and inspiration-drenched videos for Disney’s Dream Big Princess initiative.

For Tanzer and Meyer, who both came from the brand side, close collaboration, trust and communication are key. “It’s all about relationships—about listening to our clients and their needs,” Tanzer said.

It doesn’t hurt that they’re based in a city where the talent pool is enviable and the weather’s almost always good. “People are moving to Los Angeles not just because it’s convenient, but because it’s setting the trends and is really at the forefront of advertising,” Meyer said.
