When Americans have health insurance, it typically comes through their employer. In a new report from the Kaiser Family Foundation, analyzing data collected in July and August, just 7 percent of respondents who are now insured have coverage they bought themselves. But 41 percent said they’ve bought or tried to buy insurance on their own at one time or another, whether through an insurance agent or directly from the company.
