BREAKING: Director Robert Altman Dead at 81
Academy-award winning director Robert Altman died Monday night at a Los Angeles hospital. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Altman, whose most recent work was A Prairie Home Companion, started his career making educational and industrial films in Kansas City after WWII. His first low-budget indie film, The Delinquents, got him noticed by Alfred Hitchcock, who invited him to work on his TV series, and Altman’s career was born.
Altman’s signature style of parallel story lines and over-lapping dialogue, coupled with his zest for satire (shown best in M.A.S.H. and Nashville) made him one of the most influential American directors.
FBLA suggests that all fans of his work get cracking on their Netflix queues and make this long weekend a tribute to the man who gave us the pros from Dover, Hotlips, and L.A. Joan.
And memo to the Academy: Altman deserves a great montage.
