Fashion Week: Feeding Frenzy

Who says the fashion crowd doesn’t eat? After canvassing the various reps for the sponsors of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, it’s clear that many of the companies camping out in the tents believe the way to a fashionista’s heart is through the stomach. Having made the rounds, we can report that there’s plenty of carbo-loading going on at the tents.

Not surprisingly, the Moet & Chandon lounge has proven to be one of the most popular spots in the tents. Mini bottles with those odd-looking flute toppers have been guzzled like mad during the evening shows. Reps report popping 300 corks a night last week, and expect the crowd’s thirst for the bubbly to increase when the haute spot opens earlier (1 pm daily) this week. Bottoms up!

Met Life’s perch was comfort-food central with sandwiches — tomato and mozzarella, plus the more popular PB&J — and (gasp!) brownies. As of Sunday, 700 of each were being handed out per day. These folks really mean business — they even gave away Snoopy Sno-Cone machines at the beagle’s Friday show.

The DHL booth was one of the most popular, but not because they were offering discounted shipping. The clever carrier was offering delicious Eleni’s cookies decorated as DHL packs. According to a rep, the allegedly calorie-phobic crowd was chowing down on approximately 600 of the sweet treats per day.

At the Seventh on Sale booth, where t-shirts touting the upcoming event were on sale (!?!), there was an endless supply of candy and popcorn from Dylan’s Candy Bar (Dylan, as in daughter of designer Ralph Lauren, for the uninitiated).

And, as if this crowd needs more caffeine, Nespresso’s been serving up free coffee drinks and has gone through “thousands” of gallons of milk.
