NEW YORK–Samantha Shanken has joined Hampel/Stefanides as vp, director of business development.

Shanken, 34, who began last week, replaces Greg Davis, who left in March to become new business director at New York-based Kaplan Thaler Group. She is charged with identifying key prospective clients and trying to build the New York agency’s client base.

“A lot of it is getting to know the teams here, how they work, and how we can work with [Toronto-based parent] Envoy Communications to identify what kinds of business we should be pursuing,” she said.

Shanken reports to president Brian Goodall. It has not been determined how many staffers she will oversee.

She joins the shop after a stint at TBWA\Chiat\Day in New York, where she was director of business development and agency marketing.

Before that, Shanken was director of business development, account director at Red Sky Interactive in San Francisco, where she worked on launches of Nike.com and Absolutvodka.com, and on Kodak and Hewlett-Packard, among others.

Prior to that, she served as senior account supervisor at Young & Rubicam in New York and its direct marketing arm, the former Wunderman Cato Johnson, working on Citibank.

“She has a richly diverse background in traditional advertising, new media and direct advertising,” said Goodall, who was particularly impressed by her work on Citibank.

Hampel/Stefanides has 60 staffers and claims billings of $140 million. Clients include Court TV, Castrol Motor Oil, Aer Lingus and Neuberger Berman.
