Lodsys Suing Several iOS Developers Over Patent -- Lodsys continues its string of lawsuits by filing patent infringement lawsuits against Rovio Mobile, Electronic Arts, Atari, Square Enix, and Take-Two, reports FOSS Patents, bringing the total defendants up to 37 (with Wulven Games being removed from the amended complaint). Moreover, Lodsys shows little concern over the involvement by Apple. Instacolor Forced to Change Name -- A new iOS discovery app by the name of Instacolor launched a few weeks ago. However, now TechCrunch is reporting that the developers behind Color have issued Instacolor a cease and desist, forcing them to change the name of the application to "Instalook." PlayPhone Signs Top Chinese Mobile Developers -- Mobile entertainment content distributor PlayPhone announced at the Casual Connect conference this week that it has signed a deal with two of the largest Chinese mobile game developers, China Wireless Arts and Magic Universe. Through the partnership, the former will bring their title "Journey to Egypt" to Android for the PlayPhone Social platform. The latter is to incorporate the MMOG "Latent Dragon" for Android as well. Android & iOS Mobile Advertising -- An infographic released by inneractive has granted a look into the realm of mobile advertising on both Android and iOS devices. As it stands, iOS out does Android in terms of eCPM ($1.7) and CTR (2.3%), while Android comes out on top with global fill rate (85%). [Launch] Green Farm Comes to Android -- Already released for iPhone, the social farming game from Gameloft, Green Farm, has made its way to Android this week. That said, the game does not connect to any existing online farms from Facebook. [Launch] Free Fruit Ninja Available for Android -- Popular fruit slashing mobile title Fruit Ninja is getting a free version this week. Developer Halfbrick has now made an ad-supported free rendition available for Android. [Launch] Pet Society Vacations Hits iOS -- Playfish has expanded its Pet Society title into iOS with the launch of Pet Society Vacations. The new title is free-to-play and allows users to take their virtual pets off to island paradises, customizing their very own houseboat. Android App Player Leaks for PlayBook -- According to N4BB, Android App Player has leaked onto the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in the form of a beta version. However, in a note from RIM to SlashGear, use of the application is not recommended, stating that it was "inadvertently posted" and contains software that is both "outdated and non-functional." However, the official beta release of Android App Player is slated for release later this summer. Verizon Reports 2.3M iPhone Activations, At&T Reports 3.6M -- Verizon and AT&T have reported their second quarter earnings this week. According to the reports, the former noted 2.3 million iPhone activations this quarter (compared to 2.2 million in its launch quarter), while the later stated 3.6 million (3.2 million were activated in Q2 of last year). More Malware Concerns for Android -- Security firm Dasient has noted numbers concerning the growing malware problems on Android smartphones, reports Digital Trends. Of 10,000 applications studied on the platform, it was found that 8 percent transmit personal data to unauthorized parties. Quepasa & myYearbook Merge -- Earlier this week, social games developer and creator of the Latin social network Quepasa.com, Quepasa Corporation, and myYearbook, with its social mobile platform, have announced that they will be merging. The noted $100 million deal ($82 million in Quepasa common stock and $18 million cash) will effectively double the pair's userbase with over 70M registered users for the web, 2.2M mobile installs, 11.5M mobile game installs, 2.1M social game installs, and a consolidated TTM revenue and EBITDA of $33.6M and $5.9M respectively. [Announcement] Arkadium Opens Mobile Gaming Headquarters in Toronto -- Casual games developer Arkadium has announced that it is expanding once again, this time opening a new mobile gaming studio in Toronto, Canada. Focusing on HTML5 and iOS titles, the new studio is slated to bring ten new games to market over the next year.
