Meryl Streep Reads The Velveteen Rabbit In New Children's App
With the popularity surrounding some kids book apps like Oceanhouse Media‘s Dr. Seuss apps, it seems that kids books are taking off in the app world these days. Today a new company called Ruckus Media Group, which calls itself “a global family entertainment company,” announced its entry into the market.
The Ruckus Mobile Media unit of the company will focus on creating high def animated children’s story apps for iPhone, iPad and Android mobile devices. Ruckus is developing original apps with authors and illustrators including: Jon Scieszka, Rosemary Wells, Sandra Boynton, Andrew Clements, Patricia MacLachlan, Alan Katz, David Carter, Kevin Lewis, Mike Austin and Caitlin Friedman.
The Ruckus launch list of apps will also include the Rabbit Ears Library of classic children’s tales read by actors including Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Robin Williams and Denzel Washington.
The company’s first apps will launch on September 28th on the iPhone and cost $3.99. They include:
Tom Thumb and the Knights of the Round Table, told by John Cleese, illustrated by Tim Gabor, music by Elvis Costello
The Velveteen Rabbit, told by Meryl Streep, illustrated by Dave Jorgenson, music by George Winston
Johnny Appleseed, told by Garrison Keillor, illustrated by Stan Olson, music by Mark O’Connor
Pecos Bill, told by Robin Williams, illustrated by Tim Raglin, music by Bobby McFerrin
John Henry, told by Denzel Washington, illustrated by Barry Jackson, music by B.B. King
Ruckus plans to have more than 26 apps available by the end of the year. Droid apps are slated for release later in the fall.
