Amazon Users React to J.A. Konrath Book Deal

Yesterday thriller author (and self-publishing advocate) J.A. Konrath signed a deal with AmazonEncore for his next Jacqueline Daniels book. Publishing futurist Mike Shatzkin called it “a benchmark event.”

What do you think? Digital Book World pointed us to a thread in the Amazon forums about this publishing story–with some interesting reactions. D. G. DeLuna wrote: “I don’t care who is publishing his book I’m buying it just on principle (and it sounds like something I’d like). Instead of complaining and boycotting we can support authors who support us.”

Saxon Slade wrote: “It’s brilliant. He’ll pick up new readers like me (I’ve never read a Konrath) simply because of the price and his affection for Kindle. Then the publicity and Kindle buzz will help drive the hard-cover sales afterward. Very smart marketing. Pretty soon publishers will figure out that Kindle sales contribute to dead-tree book sales. People thought home video would kill movie theaters, but it only increased ticket sales.”
