BlackBerry Getting Its Own Music Store

Puretracks, a digital music service based in Toronto, has unveiled a DRM-free mobile music store for the BlackBerry. Magnet Mobile Media helped it build the Puretracks Mobile Edition store.

Designed to work with all flavors of the BlackBerry Pearl, Curve and 8800 handsets, Puretracks Mobile uses the DRM-free AAC/AAC+ format because the files take half the time to download and only take up half as much space as MP3 files, Fierce Mobile Content reports.

The mobile music store will launch in the US on April 1. Canada and other markets will follow, but no timeframe was given. Puretracks promises a broad selection of songs from top mainstream and indie artists, but hasn’t said how much they’ll cost. It also plans to add support for Wi-Fi in a future release.
