This Oregon Newspaper Is Looking for a Marijuana Critic

And resumes are rolling in

With Oregon becoming the latest state to legalize recreational marijuana last month, Portland's major daily newspaper is looking to grow its cannabis coverage.

Last week, The Oregonian, the oldest continuously published newspaper on the West Coast, put out an ad seeking a freelancer to "review marijuana strains, infused products and highlight consumer trends unique to Oregon's robust cannabis culture and marketplace." The paper told Adweek that job submissions have just begun to roll in, though they are not sure how many people have applied.

The paper has been heavily covering the marijuana industry for the last two months.

The Oregonian is looking to follow the model used by The Denver Post starting in 2013 when Colorado became the first state to legalize marijuana for recreational use. The paper started up its own marijuana site, The Cannabist, and The Oregonian told Adweek the goal is to post similar reviews.

Covering cannabis is a growing trend. Fusion has its own chief cannabis correspondent, Ryan Nerz, who told TVNewser he has one of "the best job titles out there." Nerz also hosts the weekly Cannabusiness Report for the network.
